What is a balanced diet?

A balanced diet is what provides all the nutrients in the required amounts and in the right proportions. It can be easily obtained with a combination of basic food groups. The amount of food needed to meet nutritional needs is different with age, gender, body condition and physical activity. A nutritious diet should provide about 50-60% of the total calories from carbohydrates, preferably in complex carbohydrates, about 10-15% of protein and 20-30% of both saturated and insoluble fats.

A balanced diet is a diet that consists of different types of foods and quantities so that the need for calories, proteins, minerals, vitamins and other nutrients is sufficient. Each body needs a certain amount of nutrients and calories to stay active and healthy. It is helpful in getting us all the nutrients we need without exceeding the recommended calorie per day.
